You can register for MBOS in three easy steps.
STEP ONE — Set up Your MBOS Account
On the Division of Pensions and Benefits home page, click the button “Register” located in the Access myNewJersey section.
When all of the information has been entered click the “Submit” button and the myNewJersey Account Page will open.
STEP TWO — Sign-On to, or Create, Your myNewJersey Account
On the myNewJersey Account Page, indicate if you have an existing myNewJersey account.
If you already have a myNewJersey account, click "Yes" and enter your myNewJersey Log On ID and Password where indicated on the myNewJersey Account Page.
If you do not have a myNewJersey account, you must create one. Click "No" and enter all of the information requested on the myNewJersey Account Page.
Be sure to select a Log On ID and Password that is easy to remember!
Passwords must be at least 6 characters long and chosen from at least two of these groups: lowercase letters, uppercase letters, digits, and other characters (except space, quotes and \).
Note: Forgotten Log On IDs and Passwords are the most common problem members have when using MBOS. Be sure that you can remember your Log On ID and Password for future use.
When done, click the button at the bottom of the form page and proceed to Step Three.
STEP THREE — Start Using MBOS
Once you successfully create, or link to, your myNewJersey account your “MBOS Home Page” will open. From the MBOS Home Page you can access the MBOS Applications that are currently available to active or retired members.
As part of the MBOS registration process for employees, you must enter your Retirement System's code number, or "Fund Code."
Retirement System Fund Codes used in MBOS are as follows:
As part of the MBOS registration process for employees, you must enter your Pension Membership Number. You can often find your Membership Number printed on your payroll check statement. It is also printed on other forms and correspondence sent to you by the Division of Pensions and Benefits such as your Personal Benefit Statements. Your Human Resources Representative can also provide it to you.
The Pension Membership Number is 8 or 9 digits in length divided into two sections.
When registering for MBOS, first make sure you select the "member" option to access the active employee registration form.
Enter your first and last name, then use the drop-down box to select the name of your pension fund, then enter the remaining 6 or 7 digits of your Membership Number into the second box.
As part of the MBOS registration process for retirees, you must enter your Retirement Number. You can find your Retirement Number printed on your pension check statement. Your Retirement Number is also printed on other forms and correspondence sent to you by the Division of Pensions and Benefits after your retirement is processed.
The Retirement Number on your statement is 10 digits in length divided into three sections.
When registering for MBOS, first make sure you select the "retiree" option to access the retiree registration form.
Enter your first and last name, then use the drop-down box to select the name of your pension fund, then enter the middle 2 digits for the code into the box that appears to the right of the fund selection, and finally enter the remaining six digits of your Retirement Number into the third box.
After you are registered with MBOS and myNewJersey, following these instructions to Log On to myNewJersey and access your MBOS Home Page.
Note: The link to MBOS is contained in the Pensions and Benefits Channel which appears on the left-hand side your myNewJersey home page.
When the myNewJersey home page opens be sure that the myNewJersey tab at the top of the page is selected.
If, after selecting the myNewJersey tab, you still do not see the Pensions and Benefits Channel, Click Here!
Note: If asked to select a "User Role" Click Here!
When you register for myNewJersey, you are asked to create a "Log On ID" to serve as your identifying user name when you sign into, or "log on" to, MBOS.
You are allowed to choose any Log On ID that you wish, with any combination of letters or numbers — provided that it is entered as one word.
If you cannot remember your myNewJersey “Log On ID” try using what you think your "Log On ID" might be. myNewJersey will not lock you out for guessing incorrectly.
If you cannot get in, you must retrieve your Log On ID from myNewJersey.
If you do not see the “MBOS and EPIC” button and it was previously visible on your myNewJersey home page, here are common reasons why buttons, windows, icons, or other content is now missing.
If the Pensions and Benefits Channel heading is completely gone, you may have clicked the X button in the blue bar above the box or window, causing that section of content to be "removed" from your myNewJersey page.
To get the channel back, look along the "Welcome" line at the top of the myNewJersey Home Page and click the "content" link. On the page that opens, make sure the “Pensions and Benefits" box is checked and then click the “Finished” button.
Look for the Pensions and Benefits Channel box or heading along the left-hand side of your myNewJersey home page. If the channel box is minimized, maximize the box and restore it to its normal size by using the restore button at the upper right of the blue bar.
You may have created more than one myNewJersey account and linked the Pensions and Benefits Channel to one of those accounts — but you're logged on to a different account. In this case you need to log on to the correct account to access the Pensions and Benefits Channel.
If you created more than one myNewJersey account and you can't remember the “Log On ID” for the correct account, you need to contact myNewJersey for help.
If you have MBOS access from more than one pension fund account*, or you have employer access to the Employer Pensions and Benefits Information Connection (EPIC), you will need to select the "User Role" you wish to open each time you log on to MBOS or EPIC.
After you log on to MBOS or EPIC you can click the "Select Different Role" button on your MBOS or EPIC Home Page to leave the current MBOS or EPIC session and access your other accounts or user roles.
*For example, you will have multiple "User Roles" if you are a member of both the Public Employees' Retirement System and the Teachers' Pension and Annuity Fund.
An email address change has to be implemented on both myNewJersey and MBOS to be effective.
Log on to your myNewJersey account. Along the top “Welcome” line, select “change profile”.
The Client Profile page will open. Update your email address in the box provided.
If you continue to have difficulty, please contact the MBOS Help Desk at 609-292-7524.
An MBOS account will be locked if an Authorization Code is used more than once, or you have notified the Division of Pensions and Benefits that you have been a victim of Identity Theft .
For assistance when locked-out of an MBOS account, please contact the MBOS Help Desk at 609-292-7524.
